Several of the boats that we worked on had such small space constraints that the only way to fit everything was to provide a customized solution.      This was the case with building a drive system for "The Darriel"   There was a limited space for batteries and the drive system.   In order to get the desired range we chose Lithium Batteries and built custom mounts for the batteries to surround the drive system.    We custom built a mounting system to maximize the battery space available.   The results were better than anticipated.    The following slideshow shows how a geared drive system can be installed in a full keel boat.   Notice how the drive was installed in perfect alignment with the shaft tube.    This is completed by suspending the drive in perfect alignment from ropes, and then building an epoxy plywood base to lag the gearbox onto.    OEM manufacturers of full keel boats could utilize this form of electric propulsion by building the base into the cabin floor mold.   (This method of construction does not apply to fin keel boats which change shape when they come out of the water.).   We then custom built an interface for the Battery Management System which also integrated with the GPS Mapping Software.     See more pictures of this custom installation at "The Darriel" under the Yachts tab.
